How to Use MockRocket to Create a Video Mockup

Here’s how I used MockRocket to create a compelling video mockup in minutes!

  5. Make Customizations
  6. Play the Preview
  7. Export!

Step 1: Go to MockRocket

I started by going to the MockRocket.io homepage and selecting “Get Started” on the top right.

Step 2: Watch the Quick Tutorial

Without having to create an account, I could start using MockRocket! They welcomed me with a quick video showing me how to get started which I found very helpful.

I was happy to see the interface was simple and well laid out. It wasn’t intimidating at all, especially compared to other editing software.

Step 3: Choose a Mockup Template

I could go right ahead and drag and drop a video into the mockup, but I chose a template I felt was more suitable for what I was envisioning.

The templates were all nicely listed on the top left, and I could preview them by hovering my mouse over the templates I was interested in. I ended up going with the first template.

Step 4: Drag an Image or Video

Next, I had to drag and drop an image or video into my mockup. I dragged and dropped a lock screen based on a poster design I made, and it worked seamlessly! The lock screen fit perfectly into the mockup without me having to do any complicated resizing or adjusting.

Step 5: Make Customizations

The background didn’t go too well with my lock screen, so I changed it to something more suitable. I selected “Background” and chose an orange gradient that matched some of the colors on my lock screen. You can also change your background to completely transparent or a solid color.

Besides customizing the background, you can also change devices, adjust the camera angle and depth of field, and change the lighting and shadows. I was happy with how everything looked, so I kept everything on default.

Step 6: Play the Preview

Next, I played the preview by hitting the play button near the bottom to ensure the mockup animation looked how I wanted it to.

Once I was happy with how everything looked, the only thing left to do was export my mockup by selecting the Export button on the top right!

You’ll have the choice to export your mockup as a PNG image or a video. I went with video and was happy to see lots of export options, including ones specific to Instagram and Dribbble.

The export took no time (only a few minutes), even with my video export settings set to Full HD at a high quality.
