1. Behance: Adobe’s Design Comunity for Showcasing & Discovering Creative Work

Behance homepage.

Behance is a classic go-to platform for designers looking to showcase and discover creative work. I know I’ve gone there countless times for design inspiration, whether for poster designs, album cover art, or other projects. They even have sound effects, illustration, and animation.

Behance is the perfect resource for Adobe Creative Cloud fanatics. While it offers a wide range of design inspiration, from UI/UX design to product design, it categorizes design inspiration among Adobe’s most popular design tools like Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and more.

The Adobe XD category on Behance.

I’ve found the XD category to be particularly helpful in UI design, as it specifically showcases inspiration for designing websites and apps. All the designs look fantastic; from sleek and modern website layouts to intuitive mobile app interfaces, you’ll find a wide range of designs that will spark your creativity.

When selecting any of the projects, you’ll notice that a detailed description accompanies each project and often includes information about the design process. I love that Behance does this because it provides valuable insights into the designer’s thought process and offers practical tips and techniques that you can apply to your projects.

Behance has everything you need for excellent UI design. It’s also a great resource for design systems inspiration, helping user experience (UX) designers create seamless user interfaces.

Lastly, typography inspiration can be found on Behance, providing UI designers with the edge they need in app design.

Dribbble, a hub for designers, provides a wealth of design inspiration, including diverse design systems, typography, industrial design, fine arts, and design patterns. It’s a treasure trove for UI and UX designers, offering a platform to gain creativity, feedback, and even job opportunities.

The catch with Dribbble is that it allows anyone to register to find, follow, or recruit designers on the platform. However, any designs you share on the platform will remain confidential (as in only viewable on your profile) until you are approved a Designer on Dribbble.

The job board, unfortunately, is not for free. However, access to Dribbble Inspiration is!

Check out these mobile app designs I found with inspiring user interfaces:

Social Media Platforms as UI Design Inspiration

Social media platforms are not typically associated with UI design inspiration, but they can be unexpected sources of inspiration for designers. Let’s explore two popular platforms designers can leverage for inspiration for UI design.

4. Pinterest: An Unexpected Source of UI Design Inspiration

Pinterest homepage.

Based on the Pinterest homepage, you’d think it’d be a terrible place to get any design inspiration. But trust me, you’d be surprised!

I’ve used it endlessly on countless projects, particularly poster designs. This is my Pinterest board on poster inspiration:

Poster design inspiration on Pinterest.

Pinterest is arguably my all-time favorite source of inspiration for everything in life, including graphic design.

When you find something you like, you can click on it, and Pinterest will suggest an endless amount of related sources of inspiration in the “More to explore” section that appears. It’s dangerous but extremely useful for finding the best inspiration.

In this example, I found a UI design I liked, and Pinterest automatically suggested more inspiration like it:

Pinterest suggesting more pins like the one selected.

The biggest downfall for UI designers is that Pinterest has broad categories not specific to UI. You’ll have to get creative and search UI keywords like “UI design/inspiration/trends/websites/ideas” as a starting point. However, from there, Pinterest will suggest keywords to help you, which is nice!

When I searched “UI design” on Pinterest, it suggested I search for more keywords similar to it, like “Mobile,” “App,” and “Web,” which I found helpful.

Get ready to take a deep dive into a never-ending rabbit hole of inspiration.

5. Instagram: Showcase and Discover Creative Work

Instagram homepage.

Similar to Pinterest, Instagram is another source of unexpected UI design inspiration. It’s mostly known for sharing photos and videos to stay in contact with friends and family. However, it’s also a haven for creative minds to showcase their work, including UI design.

Many talented designers and design studios have dedicated Instagram accounts where they share their latest UI creations. You can find many styles, from minimalist and clean designs to vibrant and experimental ones.

Searching UI design on Instagram to find UI design accounts for inspiration.

By typing “UI design” into the search bar, I found endless UI design accounts for inspiration, which is a great starting point.

Notice the #UIDesign under the design accounts that came up? Hashtags are one of Instagram’s best ways to discover UI design inspiration. Following popular design-related hashtags such as #UIDesign, #WebDesign, or #UIInspiration is an excellent way to stream innovative and visually stunning designs on your feed constantly.

Emphasizing the magnifying glass to access the Explore page on Instagram.

In addition to following hashtags, you can also explore Instagram’s Explore page. That’s my explore page from my design account. The Explore page has been a massive source of inspiration for me and an excellent way to find other designers and design studios that I may not have come across otherwise.

This Explore page lets you discover new accounts, posts, and hashtags based on your interests and preferences. Tap on the magnifying glass icon at the bottom of Instagram on your phone, and you’ll be greeted with a curated selection of content tailored to your liking.

Selecting the bookmark icon to save a post on Instagram.

When selecting a post that you like, hit the bookmark icon to save it.

Accessing saved posts on Instagram.

You can then go to your profile, hit the menu on the top right, and go to “Saved” to access all of your saved posts. You can even organize these into collections!

When exploring UI design on Instagram, engaging with the community by leaving comments, asking questions, and sharing your appreciation for their work is good practice. You never know; you might talk with a talented designer or get valuable feedback on your designs. Building connections within the UI design community can lead to collaboration opportunities, mentorship, and job prospects.
